Bounty Hunter is the protagonist and player character in High On Life. Players can customize their look at the beginning of the game, when the protagonist's sister, Lizzie, hands them a mirror to sniff some cocaine from it. Depending on the choice, Lizzie will address the player as sister or brother.
Over the course of the game, players will also have the opportunity for equipment customization.
Personality[]
Little is known about the Bounty Hunter’s personality prior to the G3’s invasion of Earth, as they are essentially a shell filled by the player. What is known is that they love to play video games and are a pop culture aficionado in general, as evidenced by the numerous posters on the walls of their room. Their hobbies have created a great deal of friction with the rest of their family, particularly their parents, who believe there isn’t much of a future playing video games all the time and want them to be as successful as Lizzie (regardless of her own glaring flaws). All that time in front of a computer pays off, however, once the Bounty Hunter rescues Kenny during the G3’s takeover, successfully killing more than a few of the cartel’s forces during their escape.
Despite being an unwilling participant in intergalactic conflict, the Bounty Hunter maintains a level of compassion throughout their adventure, such as allowing the homeless Gene Zaroothian to stay at their house even after saving Earth, then later tracking down Lizzie out of concern for her safety and convincing her to come home. In addition to their compassion, the Bounty Hunter develops a deep hatred for the G3 and what they do to other species. Upon infiltrating Nipulon’s lounge, they were overcome with rage at the sight of other Humans being commodified as a drug and blew their cover, fighting through multiple cartel troops to reach Nipulon’s office.
Trivia[]
- The Bounty Hunter is implied to be adopted, as both their parents are shown to be Caucasian in pictures, regardless of their chosen ethnicity.
- Lizzie will react to the player if you make them black, however she was high on cocaine.
- Lizzie hints that the player's parents do not appreciate their time playing videogames all day, however she may have said this to make the player feel guilty to force them to help her with her party and that the parents are actually worried.
- During the end credits, photos show everyone celebrating at Space Applebee's, however it is unknown if this happens to whether you pay or not pay a tip to which you get banned ("including in real-life").
- It is assumed that the ban was lifted after saving the universe from the G3.
