Douglas is the G3's Chief of Training and Torture, located on Port Terrene and a major antagonist and second (or third) boss in High On Life. His bounty is 1,500 pesos.

In his boss battle, Douglas will use Sweezy against the Bounty Hunter. Once he's killed, Sweezy will join the Bounty Hunter.

Appearance[]

Douglas is a blue octopus-like alien in red, astronaut-like armor. Without his armor, his soft, squishy body makes him very vulnerable.

Personality[]

Douglas is an extremely violent and eradic individual. This is likely due to his blade drug abuse having a negative long term effect on his personality. Speaking of drugs, Douglas has an extremely addictive personality; Drugs, alcohol, violence, torture and probably gambling. He has every vice in the book and is legendary for his wild partying.

He is extremely irresponsible and doesn’t even pretend to take his job seriously and is frankly very bad at it. Forcing all the men who pass his training exams to kill each other for no reason, despite the G3 force being stretched thin and desperately needing more men. All those are facts that have him on thin ice with Garmantuous. It frankly makes no sense how he got the job.

Despite all his short comings, he is cautious enough to keep his appearance hidden, with his suit covering his face.

Douglas can be clever and possesses quick thinking when he has to, trawling together a fake identity to trick the Bounty Hunter into helping him get back to his war suit after accidentally locking him self out after a bender.

Story[]

Douglas does not have a clear backstory, but the in-game events revolving around him are note-worthy:

The Bounty Hunter manages to sneak into his Training and Torture program, passing all of the parkour and combat tests. Afterwards, the Bounty Hunter meets Dr. Joopy, who's a blue octopus-like alien with a soft, squishy body. Now where have we seen that before...?

Dr. Joopy asks the Bounty Hunter for help, as Douglas has his wife and children hostage. Kenny and Gus agree to help. Dr. Joopy stays inside the tubes for safety and asks the Bounty Hunter to shoot some of the pipes so he can travel forward. There are three puzzles of this.

At the final puzzle, the Bounty Hunter can slightly change the story depending on if they're using either Kenny or Gus to solve the puzzle. But either way, after the third puzzle is solved, the Bounty Hunter will end up fighting Douglas.

And why is Dr. Joopy mentioned so much when this is about Douglas? Well to explain... and spoiler alert: Douglas is actually Dr. Joopy, who's luring the Bounty Hunter to his HQ.

After killing Douglas, the Bounty Hunter will hear Garmantuous on a voice call looking for Douglas, suggesting that he has close relations with the G3 Cartel's leader. Or had. You did kill him, right? Not yet? Just read the "Boss Battle" section then go fight him already.

Trivia[]

  • He is voiced by Tom Kenny, who is known of voicing SpongeBob SquarePants and Squanchy from Rick and Morty.
  • If you use Gus in the last pipe puzzle, he begins to realize that Dr. Joopy is Douglas due to "Joopy" being inconsistent with his family's names.
  • It is possible for the player to figure out that Joopy is Douglas on their own. Joopy's voice will occasionally glitch and become something more sinister, which foreshadows his true personality as Douglas. The player may also notice that "Joopy" is inconsistent when talking about his family as well as, perhaps, TOO complimentary and likable. Despite figuring out the charade, the player is only allowed to kill Joopy if Gus is drawn and calls Joopy out for his lies.
  • If you decide to kill Douglas early in the last pipe puzzle, his suit will go into autopilot with his corpse inside, making it the second secret boss with the title "Douglas' Suit".
  • Kenny failing to notice that Joopy is truly evil, and even attempting to stop the player from executing Joopy/Douglas, foreshadows and underscores Kenny's overly-trusting nature and inability to judge character. This trait is what led to his part in the destruction of his planet.
